Governess’ Room

The furniture in this room is rosewood and the bed is called a sleigh bed. The bed and marble top dresser were purchased by a Cairo family in 1850. The musical instrument in the corner is a melodian and still works today. This room contains a picture made of human hair. The fireplace in this room warms both this room and the children’s bedroom. The house was built this way for fear the children would get burned by the hot coals.
